After breakfast, check-out of your hotel and depart on your half-day tour of the magnificent Keukenhof Gardens, home to more than seven million tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths spread out over 79 acres. After enjoying lunch on your own, transfer back to the port to board your superior river cruise ship. Check into your cabin and explore your floating hotel prior to an information briefing followed by dinner.

Zaanse Schans Excursion

This morning explore one of the largest harbors and commercial ports in the world! Today, delight in exploring Ghent, Belgium’s hidden treasure! The balance of the day is free to explore on your own, or consider an optional excursion that may be offered by the ship.

Your guided city bus and walking tour of Belgium’s capital will highlight all the major attractions including St. Michael’s Cathedral, the Chinese Pavilion, Japanese Tower, King’s Square, Royal Palace and of course, the imposing offices of the European Parliament building. This morning enjoy a tour of Belgium’s second largest city, home to famous painter Pieter Paul Rubens. Located on an island surrounded by wide rivers, Dordrecht is the oldest city in Holland. International flights to/from the U.S. are not included. Land-only travelers are responsible for arranging the entry and exit flights, as well as their arrival and departure transfers. smarTours cannot be held responsible for any damage caused by air schedule changes and delays. Unused land services are non-refundable.
Main Tour: Land-only services start upon independent check in at the hotel in Amsterdam on Day 2 of the itinerary listed on our tour page. Land-Only services end after breakfast on the boat in Amsterdam on Day 10 of the itinerary. Please be sure to schedule your departure flight in the afternoon to accommodate disembarkation.
PASSPORT AND VISA INFORMATION
You must be in possession of a passport valid for at least 6 months after the date of travel. Visa not required for American passport holders. Non U.S. citizens should check with the respective consulates as to the most current visa requirements to all their travel destinations. Please remember that it is your responsibility to obtain the necessary travel documents before the trip.
TICKETS AND FINAL DOCUMENTS
Your airline tickets along with final instruction and some additional travel tips will be sent to you 10 – 7 days before the scheduled departure of your tour. Please advise us in writing should your address change.
Immunizations are NOT currently required; however, you may wish to consult your personal physician or local public health authorities as to their suggestions.
In April you can expect daytime highs in the 50’s with nighttime lows in the mid-30’s to low 40’s. In May daytime temperatures typically range in the 60’s to low 70’s and cool to the high 40’s to low 50’s after the sun goes down. It can rain on occasion year-round so consider bringing a waterproof or water-resistant jacket.
CREDIT CARDS AND LOCAL CURRENCY
On the cruise ship and some stores during your shore excursions will accept major credit cards. However, for “street shopping” you will need local currency. It is recommended that you bring along cash in small denominations. On board the Euro is the accepted currency. Credit cards may be used on board (Visa or Mastercard only), but a service charge may be applied. As of May 2014, European credit card processors require credit cards with chips and a 4-digit PIN code.
On board the ship the electrical current is 220V/50MHZ and you will find a round pin electrical socket. You may need a universal transformer to convert the current and an adapter to fit the outlet/plug. Electrical current requirements range from one electronic device to another; please check your chargers and electronic devices prior to travel.
Each passenger may bring one piece of checked-in luggage (suitcase maximum 50 pounds) and one carry-on piece not to exceed 18”x10”x8”. We recommend that you do not over-pack and that you take a variety of separates with climate and comfort in mind.
