A most remarkable trip with a most remarkable tour guide! This trip was amazing in so very many ways. How can you beat the awe-inspiring majesty of our southwest parks? Each one had its own incredible beauty & each mile of the trip was a different landscape! Who knew how beautiful & interesting rocks & desert could be! I just can't decide which park was my favorite. I'm so happy to have taken this tour.
Our tour guide, Jerry, was nothing short of phenomenal! He went way above & beyond to insure we all were well informed, safe & having a great time. From watching out for us, telling us in advance what to expect & make the best choices for ourselves as to how much we could do at each stop. Aside from being so very personable & incredibly knowledgeable about the locations we visited (history, culture, places of interest, etc.), he made the trip very special for each & every one of us by seeing to our individual needs. His energy & humor were contagious! He's so impressively organized, flexible & just plain fun! And the water & snacks & rest stops along the way were so needed & greatly appreciated. I vote him Tour Guide Extraordinaire! Would absolutely go on tour with him anywhere!
Our bus driver, Lupe, was also fantastic & so personable as well. Her driving was very impressive thru long stretches of mountainous roads with so many switchbacks that could be very frightening for the faint of heart. I bow in awe of her adept handling of that large bus! And she became a Grandma the day before we got back to Vegas. Congratulations, Lupe! So very happy for you & your family! The bus was pretty comfortable but had some issues with the heat & AC (both of which were needed on this tour).
This trip is not, however, for out of shape people as it is a lot of walking, sometimes hiking, & a push every day. I had been working out 2-3 times a week since my knee surgery 1 1/2 years ago & was so glad I did! I still could have been in better shape, though. Fortunately, there were options for participants to take it a little easier. But you would miss out on so much if you weren't in very good condition.
The cost of the trip was very reasonable. The accommodations were mostly average-nice, clean, adequate-understandable in the locations we were traveling to. Many of the rooms did not have enough brighter lighting for us "seniors" on the trip, in my opinion. Personally, I could have skipped Vegas as I'm not into that scene at all. (The Vegas hotels were better but I didn't like the location of the one in "old Vegas", despite it's fame.)
This was only my second tour ever so I can't really compare it to other vendors.

This was a very efficient way to visit the parks in this region of the country. No worries about the route, traffic, where to stay, etc. Well worth the cost which seemed reasonable to us. Tour director gave good ideas on where to dine for meals not included. Most included meals were quite good.

With excellent pacing , the Southwest tour allows participants to relax and enjoy the views. The Tour Director Jerry Perkins provided an outstanding narrative of geology, history, and culture of the areas. An effort was made to accommodate the comfort of the participants - some with slight mobility issues. The bus driver was friendly and a very capable driver who ensured the safe journey through some very challenging twists and turns. Hotels were a good value with breakfasts commonly provided by three star accommodations. If lunches were "on our own" there we many options. Provided lunches need re-evaluated, but the dinners and restaurant options were excellent. In fact, the farewell dinner was superior, beyond our expectations. We were reluctant to take a big bus tour, but the fact that there were only 20 participants persuaded us to do so. The optional add-ons were offered, but we did not take either the helicopter or jet-boat. We are encouraged by the well-planned aspects of this tour to take another Smart Tour because we have always planned our own travel - hotels, transportation, etc. - but Smart Tours made it easy and the value of lessening the worries was worth it.
