Day 1: Depart USA
Your exciting journey begins with your flight to Amsterdam.

Day 2: Arrive in Amsterdam (Netherlands)
Welcome to the Netherlands! You’ll be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The balance of the day is yours to explore and dine on your own.

Day 3: Amsterdam
After breakfast, check-out of your hotel and depart on your half-day tour of the magnificent Keukenhof Gardens, home to more than seven million tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths spread out over 79 acres. After enjoying lunch on your own, transfer back to the port to board your superior river cruise ship. Check into your cabin and explore your floating hotel prior to an information briefing followed by dinner.

Day 4: Zaanse Schans Excursion
After breakfast, depart on your included excursion to the village of Zaanse Schans, a famous open-air museum featuring six windmills and more than thirty houses built in the 16th and 17th centuries, all of which invite you to discover the countryside life of medieval Holland. The village has preserved old Dutch traditions including house building, clog making, and old-fashioned cheese production which you will have the opportunity to sample. Later, return to your ship for lunch. This afternoon, your sightseeing of the city begins with a one-hour canal cruise followed by a walking tour introducing you to all the major highlights of Amsterdam including a visit to Dam Square, a stroll past Anne Frank’s House, and a stop at the Flower Market along with other major attractions! Tonight, enjoy a welcome cocktail and crew introduction before dinner.

Day 5: Rotterdam (Netherlands)
This morning explore one of the largest harbors and commercial ports in the world! Your walking tour will include the harbor front, the whimsical architecture including the hanging Cube Houses, and the steamship “Rotterdam” once the flagship of Holland America Line. The afternoon is free for optional pursuits.

Day 6: Ghent (Belgium)
Today, delight in exploring Ghent, Belgium’s hidden treasure! With its unique mix of ancient cultures combined with a lively modern student scene, bustling shops and gastronomic restaurants, Ghent will impress you with its winding canals, the famous three tower row featuring the Belfry, St. Bavo’s Cathedral, and St. Nicholas’ Church; its art, and architecture! The balance of the day is free to explore on your own, or consider an optional excursion that may be offered by the ship.

Day 7: Brussels (Belgium)
Your guided city bus and walking tour of Belgium’s capital will highlight all the major attractions including St. Michael’s Cathedral, the Chinese Pavilion, Japanese Tower, King’s Square, Royal Palace and of course, the imposing offices of the European Parliament building. You will end the tour with a walk through the beautiful Grote Markt. The balance of the day is free.

Day 8: Antwerp (Belgium)
This morning enjoy a tour of Belgium’s second largest city, home to famous painter Pieter Paul Rubens. The tour will include the city’s medieval heart with café-filled cobblestone lanes, a riverside fortress, and the impressive Cathedral of our Lady featuring original paintings of Antwerp’s famous “son”.

Day 9: Dordrecht (Netherlands)
Located on an island surrounded by wide rivers, Dordrecht is the oldest city in Holland. Your guided walking tour will include views of beautiful inner city harbors, quaint canals, wooden bridges and typical Dutch houses. Back on board enjoy a farewell cocktail followed by the Captain’s Farewell dinner.

Day 10: Amsterdam/USA
As all good things must come to an end, after breakfast, bid your crew goodbye and disembark by 9:00 am. Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the US with a suitcase full of memories!

You’ll see the incredible historical monuments the city has to offer including the Hague, the seat of the Dutch government, and home to the royal family. The city center is easily accessible by foot and features architecture from the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. You may also see Scheveningen, a fishing village and resort suburb featuring the magnificent building at the Kurhaus and a picturesque strip of sandy beach.

With this excursion, we will discover one of the pearls of the Low Countries. Learn about the city’s history and tradition during your bus ride to Bruges. This elegant, luxurious, boutique-style vessel was designed in an old-world grand yacht style with a maximum capacity of 110 passengers. All cabins are approximately 150 sq feet with modern amenities including beds that can be stowed away during the day to create extra space to relax, air-conditioning/heating which can be regulated individually, a mini safety deposit box, a telephone, and a hair dryer. Cabins on the main deck have panorama windows while cabins on the upper Promenade deck will have new french balconies. ADVANCE SEAT ASSIGNMENT
The above airlines does not assign seats in advance. Please note that smarTours is not involved with your seat assignment. It is between you and the airline! Seat assignments can only be arranged upon check-in at the airport.
International flights to/from the U.S. are not included. Land-only travelers are responsible for arranging the entry and exit flights, as well as their arrival and departure transfers. smarTours cannot be held responsible for any damage caused by air schedule changes and delays. Unused land services are non-refundable.
Main Tour: Land-only services start upon independent check in at the hotel in Amsterdam on Day 2 of the itinerary listed on our tour page. Land-Only services end after breakfast on the boat in Amsterdam on Day 10 of the itinerary. The ship disembarks at 9:00am. Please be sure to schedule your departure flight accordingly.
PASSPORT AND VISA INFORMATION
You must be in possession of a passport valid for at least 6 months after the date of travel. Visa not required for American passport holders. Non U.S. citizens should check with the respective consulates as to the most current visa requirements to all their travel destinations. Please remember that it is your responsibility to obtain the necessary travel documents before the trip.
TICKETS AND FINAL DOCUMENTS
Your airline tickets along with final instruction and some additional travel tips will be sent to you 7 – 10 days before the scheduled departure of your tour.
Immunizations are NOT currently required; however, you may wish to consult your personal physician or local public health authorities as to their suggestions.
In April you can expect daytime highs in the 50’s with nighttime lows in the mid-30’s to low 40’s. In May daytime temperatures typically range in the 60’s to low 70’s and cool to the high 40’s to low 50’s after the sun goes down. It can rain on occasion year-round so consider bringing a waterproof or water-resistant jacket.
CREDIT CARDS AND LOCAL CURRENCY
On the cruise ship and some stores during your shore excursions will accept major credit cards. However, for “street shopping” you will need local currency. It is recommended that you bring along cash in small denominations. On board the Euro is the accepted currency. Credit cards may be used on board (Visa or Mastercard only), but a service charge may be applied. As of May 2014, European credit card processors require credit cards with chips and a 4-digit PIN code.
On board the ship the electrical current is 220V/50MHZ and you will find a round pin electrical socket. You may need a universal transformer to convert the current and an adapter to fit the outlet/plug. Electrical current requirements range from one electronic device to another; please check your chargers and electronic devices prior to travel.
Each passenger may bring one piece of checked-in luggage (suitcase maximum 50 pounds) and one carry-on piece not to exceed 18”x10”x8”. We recommend that you do not over-pack and that you take a variety of separates with climate and comfort in mind.
