The use of video projection mapping has exploded in recent years turning historic and iconic landmarks into dynamic art. Often accompanied by music, these spectacular performances range in topic, length, and overall look, but it’s the sheer scale of these innovative lighting shows that is truly breathtaking. Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg
As part of their summer illuminations series the Strasbourg Cathedral debuted this performance entitled “Transfigurations of Notre-Dame” showcasing the thousand-year history of the magnificent cathedral.
Palace of Parliament
For the 555th anniversary of the city of Bucharest, there was a five minute fifty-five second light show depicting the history of the city projected on the 60,000 square foot façade of the Parliament building.
San Fernando Cathedral

This light show entitled “San Antonio: The Saga” is a visual journey through the history of San Antonio–from historical discovery to early settlement, to current development.
This experience called “Sarum Lights” is a fully immersive light and sound spectacular that explores the rich history of Salisbury Cathedral and the people who have cared for it over the past 800 years.

Notre-Dame is illuminated during a light show titled “Dame de Cœur” (Queen of Hearts) recounting the history of this iconic monument to the accompaniment of soaring orchestral music.

Designed as part of the Vivid Sydney Festival (an annual festival of light, music, and ideas), the front of the Sydney Opera House saw its sails illuminated in an inventive and inspiring way.
Hong Kong Skyline
Not just one building, this massive display is the world’s largest permanent light and sound show with 42 participating buildings. Accompanied by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the production called “A Symphony of Lights” takes spectators on a unique journey celebrating the energy, spirit, and diversity of Hong Kong.
Empire State Building
New York, United States
Meant to lift the spirits of New Yorkers as they shelter in place, the Empire State Building is keeping the lights shining with the “Empire State of Mind” Alicia Keys music-to-light show. In collaboration with iHeartMedia’s Z100 radio, the station simulcasts Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” as the Empires State Building illuminates the skyline in a range of hues synched to the song.
