This is a comfortable 1 bedroom apartment inside a gated complex with security control guard 24/7. It has 2 levels; in the first level, there is the living room with fire place. It has a sofa bed for 2 persons. Dining room, kitchen fully equipped with microwave and stove top, 15 ft refrigerator with two doors (not a mini bar fridge). The kitchen has all the utensils for cooking and serving food (if there is something you might need that is not part of the inventory, the administration will do all what is possible to get it for you). For laundry, there is a washer and dryer unit inside the apartment for your private use. There is also a private exterior patio with a colonial water fountain. In the second level, there is a full bathroom with tub and a shower head, so you can shower or take a bath in the tub. The bedroom has a queen size Serta brand bed. The flat tv is in the bedroom with cable tv and a celing fan. The bedroom area is loft style. There is unlimited wifi access.
The apartment complex has a car parking area inside the gate, very secure, and your rent includes 1 car park space. For drinking water, there is a water filter in the complex, for your unlimited use. For stays, renting one week or more, includes a cleaning service of the apartment, and change of bed linens and towels, once a week. Summary: Overall, we were pleased with the El Marques property. The unit was beautiful and kept in great shape. The staff was wonderful and friendly, and the kitchen - which was a key element to us - had everything we needed. (I’ll say that we confirmed ahead of time that there would be a toaster, and there wasn’t, but the man at the gate got us one within a few minutes.)Having lived in Antigua for a few years, as well as visited both before and after, I know that many homes don’t have air conditioning. But usually they’re set up in a way that allows a lot of free air to flow.Because of the way the unit was positioned, there was decent airflow downstairs, with exposures in three directions. Upstairs, however, that was not the same. And since cold air sinks and hot air rises, the lower level was generally very comfortable and the bedroom (a loft style) was not. The owners had very effective fans both up and down, which helped. At bedtime, though, the bedroom fan would read 82F and we’d wake up to 78 or 77. Secondly, water pressure in Antigua is very hit and miss. My former home here had decent water pressure and Porta has amazing water pressure. This shower only has a rainhead and very low pressure, which made it especially difficult for my wife to get shampoo out of her long hair. The water also didn’t get very hot, which I’ll acknowledge here that I didn’t address with the management.Overall, for the value, it’s a good place to stay. That’s why it’s still 4 stars for us.
