Saxe Coburg Place is renowned as being one of Edinburgh’s most perfect Georgian Squares. Quietly situated in the Stockbridge area of the New Town these elegant buildings are grouped round a pretty central garden. Located a twenty minute walk from the city centre Stockbridge has a very distinct character and offers a wonderful selection of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Local businesses include an excellent cheesemonger, butcher, wine merchant and fishmonger. St Stephen’s Street is well known for its eclectic mix of Antique shops and fascinating boutiques. In this part town one is close to the wonderful open spaces of Inverleith Park and the Botanical Gardens. The Water of Leith meanders through Stockbridge and its walkway is well worth exploring – the energetic can walk either to Leith or out to the Modern Art Gallery and beyond. Keen swimmers have the Victorian Glenogle Baths on their doorstep – these have been undergoing restoration and are due to re-open in July 2010.

Summary: We thoroughly enjoyed staying in the apartment. It is updated and nicely furnished. The location was perfect as it is about a mile to the historic sites, but also provides a respite from the crowds since it is located in a nice residential area. Excellent restaurants and shops within 1/2 mile. It is walkable, and Uber/taxis are available for reasonable fees. Notes to consider - the flat is on the second floor (if have mobility issues); building is older (as is every building in the area), so apartment shows some age even though well maintained (for some that makes it more charming, others used to modernized hotels, etc. may not prefer).
