After breakfast this morning, we depart to Coimbra, the city of students, home to one of the first universities in Europe and the largest university in the country. We’ll stroll through the oldest part of Coimbra, made up of narrow and steep streets leading to a lovely overlook. After an independent lunch, we’ll depart this afternoon for Aveiro, located on the west coast and set on a lagoon. After breakfast at our hotel, we’ll explore the city of Porto, known for its well-preserved treasures including the Cathedral, the Tower of Clerigos, and the Ribeira (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Despite its reputation for the preservation of ancient monuments, Porto also stands out for its ultra-modern buildings like the Casa de la Musica, Serralves Foundation, among others which are admired by international architects. Today we’ll enjoy a panoramic tour of Madrid, the capital and the largest city in Spain. It is also the residence of the Spanish Royal Family. Among the city’s main points of interest are the Museum del Prado, known worldwide for its painting collection, the 18th-century Royal Palace (entrance included), the Plaza Mayor, a notable example of the 17th-century urban architecture and a major center of activity in Madrid. We’ll depart this morning for the beautiful city-museum of Toledo, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe filled with artistic beauty and buildings from almost every period of history including Arab, Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance, and Baroque styles. Toledo is named the “City of Three Cultures” because it served as home to the Christians, Muslims, and Jews. In the 16th century, it was also the residence of the great painter, El Greco. Early this morning we’ll depart for Zaragoza where we’ll have time to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, the place where Mary appeared to the Apostle Santiago before his Assumption to the heavens. After our visit we’ll continue on to Barcelona where we’ll check-in at our new hotel.

After breakfast today we’ll take a morning tour of Barcelona focusing on the Gothic Quarter, the heart of the Old City, and its historical center. Nearby, we will experience the Mercat de la Boqueria where we’ll have the chance to taste some Tapas at the market. Afterwards, we’ll visit the stunning Sagrada Familia. This afternoon is free to take an optional tapas and wine tasting tour or to explore Barcelona, the City of Modernism, independently. This evening, enjoy a special farewell dinner at a local restaurant with wine and a Flamenco show!
After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll transfer to the airport for our flight back to the U.S.

We’ll depart Lisbon and travel to Sintra, a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site where we’ll discover the charms and history of the town that enchanted kings and poets. If the weather allows, we will stop at the western point of mainland Europe, Cabo da Roca. On the way to Cascais along the coast, be dazzled by the seascape. Next we visit Estoril, where Ian Fleming found his inspiration for the James Bond movies. Here we’ll see the gardens of the Casino before we return to the hotel.

PASSPORT AND VISA INFORMATION
You must be in possession of a passport valid for at least 6 months after the date of travel. Visa is not required for American passport holders. Non-U.S. citizens should check with the respective consulates as to the most current visa requirements to all their travel destinations. Please remember that it is your responsibility to obtain the necessary travel documents before the trip.
TICKETS AND FINAL DOCUMENTS
Your airline tickets along with final instructions and additional travel tips will be sent to you 7–10 days before the scheduled departure of your tour. Please make sure to advise us in case your address changes.
Immunizations are not currently required. However, you may wish to consult your personal physician or local public health authorities about to their suggestions.
Expect daytime high temperatures in the 60s to 70s in April and October, 70s to 80s in May and September, and 80s to 90s in June.
The hotels used on this tour offer several dining choices from casual to specialty restaurants. Average cost for dinner (excluding drinks) in the casual restaurant is about $20-25 per person. Your hotel will accept credit cards for your non-included meals. Optional activities will be offered.
CREDIT CARDS AND LOCAL CURRENCY
Hotels and some stores will accept major credit cards. However, for “street shopping,” you will need local currency. You can either exchange U.S. dollars into local currency in advance of your trip or use your debit card to withdraw local currency from an ATM. It is recommended that you bring along cash in small denominations.
Each passenger may bring one piece of checked-in luggage (suitcase) max. 44 pounds and one carry-on, not exceeding 18”x10”x8”. We recommend that you do not overpack and that you take a variety of casual separates with climate and comfort in mind.
