Your Nordic trip begins with an overnight flight to Copenhagen.
Arrive in Copenhagen
Upon arrival at the airport you’ll be met by your tour guide who will bring you on a wonderful tour this capital city. Stop to see many popular sights and landmarks including the Little Mermaid statue, Gefion Fountain, Amalienborg Palace (home of the Royal family), and the Nyhavn Canal with its quaint outdoor restaurants and cafés. You’ll also see the Christiansborg Castle (home of the Danish Parliament), Royal Opera House, and more. After sightseeing, check-in at the hotel and then enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.

Wake up to breakfast at the hotel and then enjoy a day of independent exploration. It’s the perfect time to take a leisurely bike ride around the city, sample creative street fare or delectable eats such as Smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches), and visit a variety of fascinating cultural institutions such as the Natural History Museum of Denmark and National Gallery of Denmark, both of which offer free entry!

North Zealand Excursion
Today after breakfast, you’ll travel through North Zealand via the scenic Danish countryside. First, stop in Hillerød to visit the Frederiksborg Castle, a 17th century structure that now houses the National History Museum. Continue on for a stunning panoramic view of Fredensborg Castle, the Queen’s summer residence. Then, head to the coast for a view of the magnificent Kronborg Castle in Elsinore, famously known as the castle of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Return to Copenhagen along the scenic coastal road.

Enjoy breakfast before transferring to the airport to depart on your flight to Reykjavik. Arrive to the world’s northernmost capital city in the early evening and embark on an exciting city tour. You’ll visit the Höfði house, “The Pearl” glass-dome landmark, and of course the iconic Hallgrimskirkja Church. Plus, stop to see the Harpa Concert Hall, take in gorgeous views of the old harbor, and get familiar with this inviting city center.

Today is all about pure relaxation! After breakfast, we’ll head to the famous Blue Lagoon so you can soak in the warm, mineral-rich geothermal water. The Golden Circle
This morning, fuel up at breakfast and then depart for a scenic tour of the Golden Circle. On this excursion you’ll experience Iceland’s most impressive attractions—Thingvellir National Park, the geothermal area of Geysir, and Gullfoss Waterfall. At Thingvellir National Park you can walk among the unique landscape shaped by the American and Eurasian tectonic plates drifting apart. While visiting Geysir, keep your eyes and camera on the hot springs, as they spontaneously erupt every few minutes. Today after breakfast, take off to the stunning South Shore of Iceland. You’ll traverse the coast, stopping to see the spectacular Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss Waterfalls. Plus, step foot on the famous black sand beach, Reynisfjara and enjoy inspiring views of the ocean and mountain landscapes. End the evening with a fun Viking-themed feast for your farewell dinner before returning to Reykjavik.

NOTE ON ICELAND’S TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE
Iceland is one of the most spectacular destinations on earth, yet the tourism infrastructure remains underdeveloped relative to other European destinations and typical American standards. In particular, the hotels in Iceland are much more basic in their amenities and typically have smaller rooms. That said, smarTours has planned an exciting, breathtaking trip to Iceland with clean, comfortable and centrally located hotels to help you enjoy your stay!
Flights are on Icelandair on the following schedules. Please make sure to allow sufficient time for clearing customs and immigration if you are planning a connecting flight. We recommend at least three-and-a-half hours. Please note that flight schedules are subject to change without prior notice.

ADVANCE SEAT ASSIGNMENT
Icelandair does not assign seats in advance, and smarTours is not involved in seat assignments. Seat assignments can only be arranged at the airport upon check-in.
PASSPORT AND VISA INFORMATION
You must possess a passport valid for at least 6 months after the date of travel. U.S. citizens do not require visas. Non-U.S. citizens should check with the respective consulates for current visa requirements. Please remember that it is your responsibility to obtain the necessary travel documents before the trip.
TICKETS AND FINAL DOCUMENTS
Your airline tickets along with final instructions and additional travel tips will be sent to you 7–10 days before the scheduled departure of your tour. Please make sure to advise us in case your address changes.
Immunizations are not currently required. However, you may wish to consult your personal physician, local public health authorities or Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as to their suggestions.
During the summer months in Iceland, expect daytime temperatures between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit. In the Netherlands, you may expect day time temperatures averaging in the 50’s and low 60’s in May and September, 60’s and 70’s in June through August. Nights will be cooler. In terms of daylight in Iceland, in May through August, daylight will range from 15-22 hours, and in September, daylight will range from 9-13 hours.
Your smarTours guide will be happy to offer suggestions for restaurants for non-included meals. The average cost for dinner (excluding drinks) in a restaurant is about $40-$80 per meal per person in Iceland and $30 – $50 per meal per person in the Netherlands. Your hotel will accept credit cards for your non-included meals.
CREDIT CARDS AND LOCAL CURRENCY
Hotels and most stores accept major credit cards. However, for “street shopping” you will need local currency (some markets may accept U.S. Dollars). Your hotels will also be able to exchange cash to local currency. It is recommended that you bring along cash in small denominations.
Each passenger may bring one piece of checked-in luggage (suitcase) max. 44 pounds, and one carry-on not exceeding 18”x10”x8”. We recommend that you do not overpack and that you take a variety of casual separates with climate and comfort in mind.
